Galapagos By Land

Exploring the Galapagos in a New Way

While we consider an expedition cruise as the most effective way to get the most out of your limited time in Galapagos, we understand that for some, the idea of spending several days on a ship is simply a non-starter.

Thankfully, you can still enjoy a good deal of what Galapagos has to offer while enjoying your down time based in a comfortable lodge.    Over the past few years, several very comfortable places have established themselves in the islands.  They offer top quality service, and usually will come with a package of multi-day activities from which to choose.

Budget-wise, these fall in the same ranges as 1st class to luxury ships.   Beyond very comfortable accommodations, they provide gourmet meals, and operate their own day trips, ensuring a seamless continuity in service excellence throughout your day.

Our Favourite Lodges

Pikaia Lodge

Located on the crest of a hill in the Santa Cruz highlands with a commanding view of Puerto Ayora below, extending to nearby islands, Pikaia is a wonderful place to retreat from distractions.  You won’t be bothered by the sounds of barking dogs and pre-dawn roosters.

Safari Lodge

Emulating the luxury “glamping” of high-end African safari camps, the Safari lodge offers a unique (in Galapagos) way to at once be close to nature, yet still enjoy all the creature comforts.   Located in the Santa Cruz highlands.

Ikala Hotel

If you’d rather stay in town, with all the amenities within walking distance, the Ikala is our “go to” hotel.   Located on a quieter side street, yet just a 4-minute walk to Puerto Ayora’s main pier, the Ikala has spacious, modern rooms, an inner courtyard with a larger pool.   It’s an excellent place from which to participate in your Galapagos day activities.

A couple relaxes by the side of the pool at the Finch Bay Hotel. A spectacular view of the ocean fills the background.

Finch Bay Hotel

Close to town, yet far away.  The Finch Bay is located “on the other side” of Academy Bay, away from the hustle and bustle.  Accessible by a 2-minute water taxi ride, followed by a 5 minute walk, the Finch Bay is located next to a quiet public beach. It offers a menu of day trips for its guests.
