We only offer trips to places for which we have very long term, direct personal and professional experience, not only as seasoned tourism professionals but also as conservation scientists, former field station staff and/or as residents of the destination in question. When working with CNH Tours staff, you will be joining forces with some of the foremost destination experts available. Few travel companies know their destinations as well as we do.
We are a small but experienced travel company based in Ottawa. We have been helping people organize their trips of a lifetime since 1997. For the first 20 years, we focused exclusively on Galapagos – a place with which we have a long personal and professional history. We added new destinations as we brought in team members who had their own very long personal and professional histories in these select destinations.
We’ve enjoyed using the company to promote some of our personal values as well. We like to help people in their fund-raising campaigns; support local communities; we’re making an effort to reduce our carbon footprint; we like to empower women; among other values we promote.
CNH Tours assumes that you are drawn to these destinations for their fabled reputations as places “beyond time”, where landscapes / seascapes and their inhabitants hark from a world and an era with few or no reference points common to our daily experiences. In this regard, we are assuming that you want to be put into intimate contact, as much as possible, with wild landscapes, and to have the chance to observe their inhabitants close up, as they go about their usual life cycles. We also assume that you’re expecting to have the services of exceptional guides, who are at once knowledgeable, engaged, passionate and have both a good sense of humour and the sensitivity to know when it’s time to stand back and let you get on with the revival of your sense of wonder.
Our destinations should be a “mind trip” nurtured by all of your senses. We feel that the best way to attain this experience is by reducing the distractions of day-to-day life and giving all of your senses the chance to tune into both the subtle and the not-so-subtle “stimuli of place”. For this reason, as much as possible, we focus on small groups, away from human settlements and surrounded by the natural world. You spend more time being with the landscape and not observing it. You have more opportunities to develop a sense of place, and to engage with its natural inhabitants, allowing you to tune into the spirit of place.
